Are we created in the image of Jesus?

Using the New World Translation (my emphasis is added.)

"This is what Jehovah says, your Repurchaser, Who formed you since you were in the womb: “I am Jehovah, who made everything. I stretched out the heavens by myself, And I spread out the earth. Who was with me?" Isaiah 44:24

Let us get started...

God Created

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

Do you believe that Jehovah God is our Creator?

"Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every creeping animal that is moving on the earth.” And God went on to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:26-27

  • In this verse we see the interchanging of the plural and singular.
  • In "our image" and "in his image"
  • In "our likeness" and "in God's image"
  • And God says "Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness"
  • But God is one, right? Jesus answered: “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah, 30  and you must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind and with your whole strength.’Mark 12:29-30

If God alone created, who is He talking to?

And as God asked rhetorically in Isaiah 44:24, who was with Him creating?

Some may guess another god, or an angel or himself...

The next verse has some clues.

Jehovah God then said: “Here the man has become like one of us in knowing good and bad. Now in order that he may not put his hand out and take fruit also from the tree of life and eat and live forever,—” Genesis 3:22

  • Here Jehovah God is saying this other creator, who is with Him from the beginning, is like God in knowing good and bad.
  • Therefore whoever is there with God creating man, and knows what God knows.

Scripture is clear that God alone created and He created man in His image and His likeness as we read in Genesis chapter one

Referring back to Genesis 1:1, we read that "God created" and again in chapter 3,"God went on to create the man in his image"

Who was there with God creating?

Some other gods?

Absolutely not!

“You are my witnesses,” declares Jehovah, “Yes, my servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and have faith in me And understand that I am the same One. Before me no God was formed, And after me there has been none. I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.” “I am the One who declared and saved and made known When there was no foreign god among you. So you are my witnesses,” declares Jehovah, “and I am God." Isaiah 43:10-12

  • In Isaiah we read that there are no other gods, not before Jehovah God and not after Him!

There is only one God, period!

"For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and we through him.1 Corinthians 8:5-6

  • In 1 Corinthians we read that all "so called gods" that people may believe in are FALSE, as in they do not exist in reality.

There is only one God and one Creator!

Do you believe this?

So, who was God talking to?

Who else was there with God creating man and everything else?

Let us consider it is Jesus, who is with God and in truth God who has come in the flesh!

Speaking of Jesus Paul tells us "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;" Colossians 1:15

In John we read more about this...

"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2 This one was in the beginning with GodAll things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existenceWhat has come into existence. 4 by means of him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light is shining in the darkness, but the darkness has not overpowered it.

6 There came a man who was sent as a representative of God; his name was John. 7 This man came as a witness, in order to bear witness about the light, so that people of all sorts might believe through him. 8 He was not that light, but he was meant to bear witness about that light.

9 The true light that gives light to every sort of man was about to come into the world. 10  He was in the world, and the world came into existence through him, but the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own home, but his own people did not accept him.

12 However, to all who did receive him, he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name. 13 And they were born, not from blood or from a fleshly will or from man’s will, but from God." John 1:1-13

In this passage we learn that JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD and JESUS WAS WITH GOD IN THE BEGINNING. Remember "All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence."

Also worth noting from the passage in John chapter 1, in verse 9, Jesus is "the true light" which has come into the world.

We can compare this with this verse "This is the message that we heard from him and are announcing to you: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him. 1 John 1:5

Further in Acts Jesus is talked about as "the Chief Agent of life"

"whereas you killed the Chief Agent of life. But God raised him up from the dead, of which fact we are witnesses." Acts 3:15

Most translations including the King James Bible say, "Prince of life" or "Author of life" but Chief Agent which is found in the New World Translation as quoted here means the same thing.

Jesus was with God in the beginning and in fact created all things that are in existence, and is "the Chief Agent of life" as well as The Word of God, and "the image of the invisible God", it follows that Jesus is also God.

Jesus God or false god?

I would like to go back to that John 1:1 verse. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.

We know from reading Isaiah 43:10 and 1 Corinthians 8:5-6, that there have been no other gods formed, therefore Jesus can't be "a god" he can only be the True God, in fact He is the son of God and second person of the blessed Trinity. And no the Trinity is not the belief in three gods, (that would be a lie) the Trinity is three divine persons which make up the ONE God. In the Trinity God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

For example Jesus asks His disciples to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit" Matthew 28:19

We see the singular used for God "in the name (singular) of" because God is ONE!

For comparison purposes I will quote form the King James Bible, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1 KJV

Do you believe Jesus is another god apart from Jehovah God and therefore a false god or the true God?

Do you believe what the bible says about Jesus?

Let's recap what we have learned...

  • God alone created!
  • We learned that there is only one God in truth that exists, Jehovah God.
  • It was Jesus who was with God in the beginning creating man.
  • Jesus is "the image of the invisible God" that is how he could create man in the image of God.
  • We are created in the image of Jesus!
  • Through Jesus, "All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence"
  • Jesus is "the True Light", also "God is light"
  • If Jesus is not God then how can be be the True Light, when God is light?
  • Jesus is the "Chief Agent of life" bringing life, creation into the world.
  • Jesus is not "a god" among many since NO OTHER GODS exist in truth.
  • Any person or being claiming to be a god is a false god and not a god at all!
  • "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1 KJV
